Vegesna
Foundation, a registered,
tax-exempted Trust
dedicated to the disabled, was established in 1988, with an aim to rehabilitate the
disabled for mingling them with the main stream of the society. The Foundation was started
with the help of NRI friends, especially Heart and Hand for Handicapped of New York
and TANA Foundation under the guidance of Dr K V Rao NY, Dama Venkaiah NY and Dr K Raghunath NJ.V.V.Raju, a philanthropist offered his contribution for
the noble project and the project started on his late mothers name Vegesna Padmavathi. |
The
census shows that 10% of the population is disabled in one way or the other. For no fault of theirs,
many children are becoming disabled. Most of them because of poverty, ignorance and
negligence of the parents and society are developing as anti-social elements with street
begging, stealing and maladjusted personalities. Realising this and recognising the need
for a rehabilitation centre, Vegesna
Foundation was established
and is doing yeomen service for the --Polio affected, totally crippled, orthopaedically
handicapped, mentally retarded, cerebral palsy and other disabled children.
The Foundation is providing
facilities to the physically handicapped children in the society free of cost,
irrespective of the caste, creed and religion.
The Foundation extends its services to
the children throughEducation upto X class, Free boarding and lodging, Nitya
Annadanam, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Surgical Corrections, General Medicine,
Prosthetic and Orthotic appliances facility, Vocational Training, Computer
Education, Special Games and Sports, Fine Arts. Etc.,
City for the Disabled: City for
the Disabled is an entity of activities that makes a handicapped child a self-reliant
youth. The disable child enters the compound as a dependent and leaves the institute as a
rehabilitated, developed, trained youth who can support himself and his family in all
aspects.
The Institution has acquired 3083 sq.
yards of land with the help of the philanthropists in India and abroad under the
"Donate one yard of land" scheme, at Kuntloor village, Hayathnagar, on national
highway No.9. The Institution plans to construct a Meditation Hall, Residential Hostel for
boys and girls, Schooling upto X class, Rehabilitation Centre including complete medical
facility, Vocational Training Centre including Computer Education.
